Michael Rose Michael Rose former lead singer with the great Black Uhuru and a successful solo artist performed at this year's celebrations. He is recognised worldwide as a lyrical genius and also a top producer.

Fantastic new carnival costumes were created by top Trinidadian carnival costume designer Richard Bartholomew and his team of five costume-makers, working alongside groups from the DWICA (Derby West Indian Community Association) Carnival Troupe, Mandela’s Carnival Troupe and St Benedict’s School.

Richard designed stunning, unique costumes specifically for Derby Carnival, based on the theme of 'Exotic Birds', which were created on-site in Derby with these three different community and school groups. This Three Cities Create and Connect residency project aimed to bring new skills, techniques and experiences to the local groups - and created 63 superb new costumes for this year's carnival!

A fantastic two day course led by Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter Rohan Lee and his education team, covered many exciting and crucial elements of reggae, including DJ skills and dance workshops led by up-and-coming star dance hall dance star Rizla, from Kingston, Jamaica

This Three Cities Create and Connect project covered the practice and theory behind many varied reggae skills including dance, DJs and use of sound systems, reggae melodies and rhythms, and songwriting. Workshop attendees learnt about the history and culture of reggae, and developed and improved their practical skills and techniques.
