Fantastic new carnival costumes were created by top Trinidadian carnival costume designer Richard Bartholomew and his team of five costume-makers, working alongside groups from the DWICA (Derby West Indian Community Association) Carnival Troupe, Mandela’s Carnival Troupe and St Benedict’s School.
Richard designed stunning, unique costumes specifically for Derby Carnival, based on the theme of 'Exotic Birds', which were created on-site in Derby with these three different community and school groups. This Three Cities Create and Connect residency project aimed to bring new skills, techniques and experiences to the local groups - and created 63 superb new costumes for this year's carnival!
