International Carnival Showcase - Friday August 5

A special International Carnival Showcase event started off Leicester Caribbean Carnival 2005 in style.

This fantastic fundraising event for Leicester Carnival featured the world's top Soca band - Krosfyah - with support from other great bands!

Top international Soca band Krosfyah headlined a superb night at The Athena in Leicester, which included a live performance by South African world music band Denim and Millennium London 99.8FM radio DJ Feminine Touch - the 'Queen of Soca'!

Carnival Parade and Carnival Village - Saturday 6 August

With a theme of 'A New Beginning', Leicester came alive with colour and excitment from the troupes and floats participating in the annual street parade. Hundreds of people lined the streets as the carnival procession wound its way through the city centre.

Victoria Park was transformed into a carnival village with stalls selling food as well as arts and crafts from all over the world.  There was a fun fair and other activities for the children and people were also entertained with live performances on the main stage.

Carnival Princes

The Leicester Carnival Queen Show took place on Saturday 30 July at De Montfort Hall in Leicester and there was a whole week of Cultural events throughout the city centre from August 1 - 5.

Carnival Residencies

Top Trinidadian costume designer Richard Bartholomew and his talented team of designer-makers worked with groups from Leicester Carnival to create some 63 new costumes for this year's event on the theme of 'A New Beginning'.

This was one of the Three Cities Create and Connect workshop programmes helping to boost skills, resources and bring new techniques and excitement to Leicester Caribbean Carnival this year.

The workshop programme in Leicester also included:

Reggae workshops led by Rohan Lee and his team of experienced musicians and educationalists and Soca workshops led by serveral members of Krosfyah.
