Richard Bartholomew and team: Costume design and making

Add Image Description Here

Richard Bartholomew and five costume designer-makers from Trinidad arrived in the East Midlands in July and spent a week in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. They worked with three groups in each city (which consisted of community groups, existing carnival troupes and school/young people’s groups) to create 63 new costumes for this year’s parades – a total of 189 fantastic new costumes for 2005!

Specific themes were chosen for each carnival, enabling Richard to produce unique, new designs for each city. Derby’s theme was ‘Exotic Birds’, the theme for Leicester was ‘A New Beginning’ and in Nottingham, ‘Let’s Celebrate’.
