Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham has been successful in securing funding from Arts Council England, East Midlands to tour Telling Tales throughout the region in 2008.
In 2006 working in partnership, Derby Dance, The Spark Children's Arts Festival, Leicester and Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham with support from Three Cities Create and Connect produced the Telling Tales programme.
Selected through application and audition, six regional dancers participated in a range of inspirational and aspirational experiences including: two weeks working alongside award-winning children's dance company Aracaladanza in their Madrid studio; an intensive period of creation with two acclaimed international choreographers of work for children and families - Hélène Blackburn of Cas Public (Québec) and Enrique Cabrera of Aracaladanza (Spain); and delivery of a series of linked workshops in schools and community groups.
The final phase of the project focussed on presenting the Telling Tales Work in Progress results of the choreographic periods to large audiences of 4-7 year olds and invited guests in Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
The three pieces which feature in Telling Tales are:
The Hare and The Tortoise
Sarah Hedge and Oksana Tyminska, Choreographic Director Hélène Blackburn
It's Mine
Ian Dolan and Lucy Killingley, Choreographic Director Enrique Cabrera
The Golden Goose
Alica Cade and Gemma Stevenson, Choreographic Director Hélène Blackburn
The funding from Arts Council England, East Midlands will enable the Telling Tales programme to be toured throughout the region to approximately 12 venues in the period between June - July 2008.
