Recent Three Cities Support Funded Projects

The Three Cities Cultural Consortium supported five projects through its spring 2007 call for proposals for a modest element of "Support Funding".

The following projects received support:

1. Nottingham based Trampoline for a platform event in advance of the Radiator 2007 Festival.

2.  Leicester based Metro-Boulot-Dodo for development work toward a new installation project, Communication Breakdown.

3. The Literature Development Network in order to extend its new writing magazine Tripod to a third issue.

4. Leicester based 2Funky Arts in order to maximise a month long British Arts and Street Sounds Festival (BASS) in June.

5.  Nottingham based Reactor to deliver a live art project  Destination:Geodecity  in August 2007.

1.  Trampoline, the East Midlands agency for new media arts, organised the 4th Radiator Festival for New Technology Arts for November 2007.  As an audience building run-up programme to the festival, a Trampoline platform event took place in September 2007 in Nottingham at Broadway Cinema.  2007 marks Trampoline's 10th anniversary and the intention is to expand this event into a region wide celebration using outdoor screens in the three cities.

Trampoline curated a moving image programme of works by artists from the 3 cities for the outdoor screen of the Royal Centre, Nottingham, the BBC screen on Market Square in Derby and the temporary screen on the facade of Phoenix in Leicester.  This programme will be shown again as part of the Radiator Festival, giving the participating East Midlands artists the opportunity to be seen by a dedicated international audience.

2.   Metro-Boulot-Dodo (MBD) was commissioned by Stockton International Festival to create a new outdoor show Communication Breakdown for the Stockton Festival from 2 - 5 August.  MBD engaged performance artists from Derby, Leicester and Nottingham in the project in addition to its own core team.  The performers worked with MBD on a number of texts and scripts which were rehearsed and recorded at the studio of Leicester based Vibronics.  MBD sited a red telephone box from the installation in each of the three cities for a week, enabling audience feedback ahead of Stockton and for the piece to be given a modest preview in the three cities.

3.   Following the success of BASS 2006 (British Arts and Street Sounds) in the West Midlands, in June 2007 BASS Festival took place as a month long pilot celebration across the East Midlands.  BASS celebrates black music and culture.  2Funky Arts (Leicester), Baby J (Derby) and Hella Music (Nottingham) came together to manage the festival in the East Midlands across the three cities.  The programme included live music, international and local artists, club nights, dance, theatre and arts workshops.

4.  Following its early success the Literature Development Network was keen to continue its new Tripod  magazine beyond its first two issues.  They produced a third issue, extending distribution across the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and also regionally, as the starting point for a long term strategy to continue the magazine.

5.  In partnership with Angel Row, City Gallery and QUAD, Reactor designed a weekend long workshop event that immersed a diverse group of public participants in a practical project that focused on the ideal "future city".  Reactor is a Nottingham based collective that works collaboratively on the production of one-off events, tailored individually to specific contexts, and that challenge an audience with an active role.
