Peter Stacey
Peter wrote a ‘Concerto for Bansuri’ for Hariprasad Chaurasia and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in response to a BBC Radio Three commission in 2003. The concerto was nominated for the British Composer Awards in 2004.
Other recent compositions include 'Prayer Songs for Choir', 'Big Band and Percussion' (commissioned by Carmarthenshire Music Service); 'The Perfect Wave' (commissioned by Dadadrum); 'Hawdd Amor' for orchestra, silver band, choir and percussion group (commissioned by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales); and 'Sangeet Kala' for orchestra, choir and tabla group (commissioned by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales).
Peter was born in Swansea and won first class honours in music at Liverpool University. He went on to complete a PhD thesis at the University of East Anglia.
Following his studies Peter returned to Wales where he worked extensively in community music, music theatre, and music therapy. He performs with, and composes for, India Dance Wales and can be heard in venues around West Wales playing saxophones and flutes with the multi-cultural ensemble Mojas.
