Under Scan is a public art installation featuring over 1,000 interactive video portraits of people from the East Midlands and London.  The portraits were filmed in the East Midlands by a a team of local filmmakers from July to October 2005 and in London at Tate Modern in September 2008.  When the portraits are projected on the ground, people make them ''come alive'' by covering them with their shadows, which are cast by a powerful projector.

Under Scan is the latest instalment of Lozano-Hemmer’s acclaimed Relational Architecture series which includes high-profile commissions for the United Nations World Summit in Lyon, the Millennium in Mexico City, the European Capital of Culture celebrations in Rotterdam and the opening of the Yamaguchi Centre for Art and Media in Japan.

The project aimed to help drive cultural tourism, strategically boost economic development, and to put the East Midlands on the map for hosting internationally significant new visual arts work.
