Under Scan in Trafalgar Square, London

 

Under Scan will be installed in Trafalgar Square, London for a period of 10 days, from 14 - 23 November 2008.

 

Under Scan was commissioned by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) in 2004 and, produced by ArtReach for installations in Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham. Subsequently the piece formed part of the popular Mexican Pavilion at the Venice Biennale from June- November 2007.

The Trafalgar Square installation is being produced and coordinated by ArtReach in association with key partners including:

  • Canada House and the Canadian high Commission
  • Québec Goverment Office
  • Arts Council England
  • GLA
  • Westminster Council
  • The Mexican Embassy

The project will also be supported by key arts partners including Tate Modern, ICA, The National Gallery, the Science Museum , Art Lights London and Artwise Curators.  

Each partner will be supporting the installation of Under Scan through their respective organisations, with the creation of an activity programme that will extend audience reach and participation. These activities will include:

  • The filming of 400 new video portraits featuring a cross section of Londoners
  • Educational and community led initiatives
  • Pre- and post-event seminars/debates (including artist talks)
  • Webcams
  • Limited editions and publications
  • Inclusion in the city-wide Festival of Light programme
