Under Scan in Trafalgar Square, London

 

Under Scan was installed in Trafalgar Square, London for a period of 9 days, from 15 - 23 November 2008.

Under Scan was originally commissioned by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) in 2004 and, produced by ArtReach for installations in Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham. Subsequently the piece formed part of the popular Mexican Pavilion at the Venice Biennale from June- November 2007.

Under Scan was produced in London by ArtReach, with partnership support from Arts Council England, Art Lights London, the Canadian High Commission, Haunch of Venison, Institute of Contemporary Arts,  Fundación La Colección JUMEX, Galería OMR México, the Mexican Embassy to the UK, The National Gallery, Science Museum, Roberto and Aimée Servidje, Tate Media and Tate Modern and Québec Government Office.

Each partner supported the installation of Under Scan through their respective organisations, with the creation of an activity programme that extended audience reach and participation. These activities included:

  • The filming of over 200 new video portraits featuring a cross section of Londoners at Tate Modern
  • Seminars/debates (including artist talks at the Dana Centre and Institute of Contemporary Arts)
  • Limited edition prints and Under Scan pocket size booklets
  • Inclusion in the city-wide Festival of Light programme
