The Three Cities Caribbean Carnival Residencies aimed to bring new skills to community carnival groups, school children and young people, with a series of special workshops, and various performances.
Arts Council England, East Midlands Director of External Relations Michaela Butter, said: “The residencies programme will give hundreds of people involved in Caribbean carnivals in the three cities the chance to work directly with major names from the Caribbean. It’s an initiative that won’t just see some brilliant new carnival sections and performances, but will also impact on local musicians, performers, costume-makers and carnival groups of all types. They will learn new skills and ideas which they can use in 2005 and for many years ahead.”
